A Shade Above Window Fashions: Celebrating 40 Years
A Shade Above Window Fashions is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year with special offerings, including a free upgrade to cordless lift on select banded, honeycomb and roller shades. The showroom will have new indoor and outdoor displays throughout the year including their expanded interactive blackout room which shows different degrees of light on all room darkening products.
A Shade Above’s longevity in the South Florida window treatment industry is unmatched. Company founder Bruce Abramson has been in the industry since the early 1970s, and in 1984 he had a vision that would change how consumers in South Florida shopped for shades and blinds. Instead of showing up at a home with photographs and small fabric swatches, Abramson envisioned a showroom where customers could see and feel full-size displays of all the latest products on the markets. He believed this model would help homeowners better understand their options. Small swatches and photos could never replicate seeing and feeling the products just like they would appear in the home.
In 1984, Abramson opened Window Coverings To Go in North Miami Beach. The showroom was an instant hit. Two years later, Abramson relocated to Davie, providing a more centralized location for shoppers in the Tri-County area. The business grew along with South Florida, eventually being rebranded as A Shade Above Window Fashions. When Hunter Douglas in 2000 wanted a prototype showroom for their first Gallery in the United States, A Shade Above was an obvious choice. The company remains a Hunter Douglas Gallery today. This collaboration has allowed South Florida homeowners to get access to all the newest Hunter Douglas products, often before they’re sold across the country. A Shade Above also receives special promotions and rebates from Hunter Douglas, the country’s leading window covering manufacturer. In addition to Hunter Douglas, A Shade Above showcases other top national and international brands while maintaining its roots as a family owned and operated company by offering products to fit all budgets.
As A Shade Above celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2024, Abramson remains a presence at the company. His son, Andrew Abramson, joined A Shade Above in 2017 and is now the company president. In the last 40 years, Abramson estimates A Shade Above has visited 50,000 homes in South Florida. They also have a national presence by working with a network of Hunter Douglas technicians to offer installations throughout the country. A Shade Above has a long history of selling to homeowners in the Caribbean.
A Shade Above is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Showroom appointments are recommended and walk-ins are welcomed.
